Sadly, for the first time ever, we had to cancel the team’s visit because of the unrest. Our priority is the safety of our visitors, and this year things are just too uncertain…
I told my pastor that I was interested in going, but that I didn’t think my motives were right. He told me that I should go anyway, as I could be put to good use if I went…
One thing that really stuck out to me about this trip was the way everyone served so willingly and joyfully. The team was comprised of many, very different, members and yet the Lord knit us together into a strong and unified group that was able to serve him effectively…
I think the thing that stuck with me the most was how everyone threw themselves into service for those 10 days, not just when we were teaching and doing crafts and games with the kids, but also when we went back to the guest house or the Hopp’s house. It was 10 days full of hearing stories and learning things…
The team had the opportunity to worship with the saints at Doglace. Pastor Charlie preached for us and we were able to sing Haitian Creole hymns along with the congregation. Everyone had a delightful time interacting with the kids and adults after the service…
I was stressed at first because I’d never done anything like this before, but they took me in, made me feel like I was part of the team, and suddenly all the stress was gone! Some of the team members brought lessons, others did crafts, it was amazing . . .
One of the great highlights of the trip was just getting to know the Hopps. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like part of the family…
Dust. Mount Sinai. Peanut butter. Singing. Ten commandments. Duck, duck, goose. A lot goes on at Vacation Bible School . . .
Although the impoverishment in Haiti is very grievous, the power of God’s gospel is even greater! Furthermore, the joy of the Haitian kids was inspirational . . .
Team Haiti works alongside missionaries Ben and Heather Hopp to conduct VBS programs based on Reformed catechetical instruction. The programs are presented in the Creole language with the assistance of local translators . . .
NEW HORIZONS, October 2015: Energy and resources we would normally use to serve only ourselves, instead are called to be used in service of others, both those we came to minister to and our fellow team members . . .
Team Haiti taught the Children’s Catechism questions on Christ’s offices of prophet, priest and king. We are grateful for their maturity, stamina, and the joy they brought to the job of declaring God’s glory to the children of Haiti . . .
David Nakhla’s goal for each OPC short-term missions team is to help the missionaries on the field in bringing the gospel to the nations. He also hopes to enrich the experience of the team volunteers, so that when they return from a trip, they will continue to pray for the mission . . .
Thanks for praying for the team. We know the sacrifice of the churches and other supporters is not in vain as the teams come alongside us to further the work of the church and the preaching of the gospel . . .
